Willie Walsh's Biography

Within aviation circles, William M. "Willie" Walsh is known as a miracle worker. The Dublin native took the top job at Ireland's Aer Lingus in 2001, just a month after the events of September 11 sent the airline industry into a tailspin. Most assumed he would fail. But in less than three years, Walsh brought the state-owned carrier from the brink of collapse to profitability by cutting a third of its workforce and repositioning it as a low-cost carrier.

(2) Remarks on Willie Walsh, CEO British Airways

  1. Hi as a person working in the people industry for 25 years I would like to offer my services free of charge to work in any way you want .

  2. Sir,

I am writing to express my disgust with you executive club service.

    1. I was told by a rep. that they only way that I could upgrade seats with miles was to purchase through the web site or directly with BA.
    2. I went to the web site and booked my flight with intent on upgrading with miles. I never say anything that stated the flights I was booking were not upgradable!
    3. I was then told that I could only upgrade one end of the flight because the return was on an American flight, and even though this was a partner airline you will not accept miles to upgrade. This is not ever mentioned on the web site or was it mentioned by a rep!
    4. I upgraded the front end of this flight, and the change fees were waved. I used miles to go up to business class, and figured I would call back to fix the return later when I had time.
    5. I called Today and talked to Pria who was very nice and understood my problem with the web site not clearly saying the seats I purchased were not upgradable and she was going to see what could be done.
    6. She was going to call me back because it was taking so long, she had said that the change fees would not normally be waved, but would see what could be done.
    7. I was called back and told the total fee for changing to a direct flight and upgrading was going to be less than $2000.00, and I agreed to this price. It was not the total of the change when you added it up, but I assumed that they were waving the change fees.
    8. I checked on this price twice and it was confirmed. I was then was disconnected, cell phone problems.
    9. I called back to make sure everything was ok and was informed that $3,200 was charged to my card and there was nothing that could be done about the quoted earlier price until tomorrow.
    10. I talked to Jonathan, employee number 2U, and he informed me that "it would not do any good to go above him because BA is a British company and things work differently over here".

Wow, I fly all of the time to destinations all over the world and can tell you I have never experienced this kind of confusion or misinformation as your so called executive club reps and web site put forth. I will find it very, very difficult to every fly BA in the future or to recommend you to anyone. On the contrary, I will find it easy to do just to opposite. But, maybe this does not bother you because you are a British company and things work differently there than anywhere else in the business world. I will be sending a blind copy of this to every executive in the BA family to include Mr. Walsh that I can find. I would appreciate some sort of response, phone to be preferred. Please help me change my mind about you company!
