N'Gai Croal's Auto-Biography

N'Gai Croal was promoted to general editor in December of 1999. He has written about technology since he joined Newsweek in February of 1995 as an associate editor. In September of last year, he launched a videogame blog for Newsweek called "Level Up" that quickly became an industry must-read.

As a technology writer, Croal has reviewed many of the latest Web sites, digital cameras, mobile phones, computer peripherals, MP3 players, and videogames. At this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, he debuted his second Newsweek blog, this one covering technology, called "The Revolution Will Not Be Digitized." He also writes for the magazine's Arts and Entertainment section, where he has covered everything from the eye-popping special effects in "The Matrix" to the success of rock n' rap performers like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. His work has also appeared in The Washington Post, Details, The Source, Savoy, Momentum and Theater Week.

Before coming to Newsweek, Croal was a producer at Digital Ink, The Washington Post's first online service, from June 1994 to February 1995. During the mid-to-late '90s, Croal also directed and produced Off-Off-Broadway theater, and hopes to begin work on a short film later this year.

Croal earned a B.A. from Stanford University. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
