Spotcrime.com Provides Crime Reports & Maps for Metro Residents & Tourists

Crime reporters at metro newspapers have yet another reason to fear the dreaded pink slip: Sites such as spotcrime.com.
Spotcrime offers detailed reports on local crime, with insightful charts and graphs like "heat maps" that illustrate spikes in specific crimes within certain communities. SpotCrime also operates UCrime.com, which maps criminal activity on over 200 college campuses across the United States
Users may customize their search to display one crime or all of the crimes traced: arrest, arson, assault, burglary, robbery, shooting, theft and vandalism -, all within a two-mile radius.
Spotcrime's database is updated by-the-minute for over 200 cities across the United States. As a result, locals and tourists alike have a new navigational tool to improve their safety, and the crime section in the city paper is rendered obsolete.
Imagine all of the traveling businessmen and tourists who will utilize these crime reports to avoid the rough parts of town. In my opinion, ideal partners for the site include home security system manufacturers and travel guide sites, because tourists never want to get lost in the wrong part of town and home security companies can show you the local problems in your neighborhood.
For iPhone owners in the city that never sleeps, there's a spotcrime app for New York City. SpotCrime also has a blog and Facebook page to update users.
