Did Twitter CEO Evan Williams & Tech Leaders Suggest Data.Gov to Obama?

data.gov wikipedia government

Data.gov is coming.

What is data.gov? Evidently, it's a project by the federal government and President Obama's Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra. Kundra said he's advancing an agenda that embraces open government and looking for ways to "fundamentally revolutionize technology in the public sector".

The announcement comes only a few days after Obama sought economic advice from Twitter CEO Evan Williams and other tech leaders. Perhaps they suggested the concept for the site.

I'm all in favor of government transparency, I just hope "technological revolution" doesn't replace physical copies of federal government data. While I appreciate technological advances, I'm also a firm believer keeping a paper trail for accountability.(Regardless of who is Presdient or which party is in power.)

Judging from Wired's how-to wiki article Open Up Government Data, they're in favor of open-source,free-exchange flow of government information. Their post:"

If you're a fan of free data flow into and out of the government, Vivek Kundra seems like an ally. But we can't rest on our laurels. Now is exactly the time when lobbying for particular data and documents to be made accessible could be most effective.Data.gov is coming: Let's help build it.

I'm curious to see the filtering methodology data.gov will use if it accepts public contributions. Will data.gov become Wikipedia-Government Edition ? Will Data.gov create its own Twitter profile?
