CA Earthquakes Show Power of Twitter…Again
Okay, mostly you can just use it to keep in touch with people without actually answer the phone. A few keystrokes and you can let people know where you are, that you're thinking about them or that happy hour at the bar just started.
Other times it's for far more than that. When the 5.4 earthquake hit California, people used the Twitter platform to let their friends -- and anyone reading the public timeline -- that everything was okay.
While the rest of the world waited for the new outlets to get information, regular citizens on the ground were letting people know that there wasn't much damage and city life was preceding as normal as possible.
That doesn't seem like a big deal to most Americans, but it times of danger it's of great interest those with friends in harm's way. I first came witnessed this during the wildfires last year as friends Twittered their escape routes during the evacuations.
Time and again, this emerging mobile communication platform has outdone the mainstream media outlets, giving people on the ground the opportunity to let the world know what is happening.
