Realtors Tune In Online

After five years in the Bay Area, I wanted to return to my adopted home state -- Texas -- but there was no good way to go about it. Fortunately, I'd been working in new media for about five years -- so I felt very comfortable viewing houses online. Once I'd reach a critical mass, I'd call my realtor and book a flight home.

These days, many buyers expect to tour homes before they the time to visit them. Chris Brogan has a great post about what people expect from their realtors -- and what goes into a good realtor site.

When I was apartment shopping (I live in Kentucky now), I used Google Maps to check out locations -- and when I moved, despite growing up in this area, I used Google's Street View to check out the latest improvements.

But it's not as simple as grabbing a 360-degree view of the home or a satellite view of the neighborhood, it's also important to make sure you find the right realtor -- and social media is a great place to do that as. Myspace, Facebook and LinkedIn offer ways to connect with people who have similar interests as you.

In the digital age, much of the information we need to answer the questions we have are available -- and armed with that, we can't better make decisions.
