Mobile Driving Social Networking
The mobile phone is the new TV.If you want to reach a wide swath of young influencers, market to their mobile phones through social applications.
For exa, mple, a new Facebook application lets photos from the site show up when friends call your mobile. Vringo's Facebook application will automatically update with a new photo in this marginally useful service. It may shave a fraction of a second from the time it takes to identify a caller, but fun is really what it is about. The Vringo app is currently available for BlackBerries and Windows smartphones.
On the MySpace front there's a Twitter competitor from mBlox-- an application that automatically sends friends' updates as mobile text messages.
The productivity concerns about instant messaging are amplified with these mobile applications (look away from that meeting because a friend made a new connection -- wahoo!). But marketers need to partner with mobile providers to get access to young audience. Smartphones and iPhones are partially replacing TVs and PCs as information and communication devices, so go where the action is.
