Samsung Answers MacBook Buzz with New Notebooks
A new player entered the field of laptop competition, after Samsung introduced its own line of notebooks, which are available in seven versions:
NC10 Netbook,X360,X460,Q310,R610,P460 and P560.
Samsung's answer to the Apple Mac Book Pro comes in two models- the P460 and P560- which have intel AMT 4.0 and luxurious extra touches such as fingerprint readers, spill resistant keyboard, a shock resistant hard drive. Perhaps the only distinct advantage they have to Apple's MacBook Pro is the price-$1150 and $1400, compared to the two grand you'll have to throw down for the Macbook Pro.
The smallest model in the lineup is the, NC10, with 10.2-inch(1024 x 600 pixels) screen. Like the NC10's bigger brothers, its most appealing aspect may just be its price -$500. Features include a160GB hard drive and a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera.
Shoppers searching for a 13-inch screen can choose between the X360 and X460, which weigh less than three pounds and include Intel Centrino 2 processor technology with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 3GB RAM, and a LED backlit LCD display. They both sell for about $1,600, which is actually a few hundred higher than Apple's alternative, the 13-inch Macbook.
Following yesterday's buzz created by the new Macbook , Samsung's announcement could prove to be either brilliant timing or a costly mistake due to a short-sighted approach. Shoppers may be so mesmerized by Apple's new line that they don't even notice the Samsung line this week.Samsung's target market spans wider than just potential Apple converts. A new model release closer to the start of the holiday could have created a bigger splash in the media, and Samsung may just end up as a blip on the radar screen of the average consumer.
