Paris Hilton Always for Sale

There's a great post by Chartreuse that describes the greatest marketing coup ever: Paris Hilton.

Never before has someone so effectively cashed in on their celebrity by shilling for anyone willing to pay the price. She got famous because she's a partying heiress who for whatever reason the media decided it needed to cover 24/7.

And from day one she's been selling herself by talking product, product, product. Usually people accomplish something in sports, movies, etc. before doing the commercials, but Paris was getting endorsement deals even before she landed a TV show.

This story is the saddest and proudest tale for marketers. You can make millions by selling out, even if you have nothing to offer.

(4) Thoughts on Paris Hilton Always for Sale

I agree with Gartner's post. Paris Hilton is merely a reflection of the pathetic wannabes out there who spend their non-lives on the internet, who are uneducated as well as stupid and live vicariously through the so-called celebrity that has somehow thrust Hilton into the tabloid pages. People are titilated by her and most intelligent individuals are laughing at her, not with her. Paris' fame or 15 minutes is appearing to wind down, thank goodness, as people become more aware of what an embarrassement and moron she is and as her life spins out of control. her mother is common white trash and Psris is the same. Rick Hilton seems to be a total loser who revels in the spotlight and who appears to be dragged around " on a chain " by his homely, over makeuped, flashy, trashy wife. Enough said. Pathetic family.

simultaneously market themselves to be a pinnacle pin-up for fun, cool, pop-culture society. The fact she is soo widely known across the world is a testament to the fact that what she represents and the life she leads, is universally accepted around the world. Her success would not be so widespread if it wern't the little bit in everyone, that subconciously wishes to experience what she does.

So rather than go through life despondent, hypocritical and unaccepting of difference, change your own perceptions and be open-minded. You don't have to like her, but respect what she has achieved.

Well in all fairness, you yourself seem to be one of those who "spend their non-lives on the internet". As you are obviously drawn into Pairs's web enough to care to comment. Rather than whinge and lement Paris Hilton's success, you should move on with your own life. Congratulations to her, that she has managed to wield a world which is obsessed with her. Whilst many think she is a mindless twit, which she may well be, there is no other person who has manageed to simultaneously market themselves to be a pinnacle pin-up for fun, cool, pop-culture society.
