NBC + NFL Football = Pink?

NBC just doesn't get it. They haven't had NFL football on their channel in decades and it shows. They've promoted the Manning vs Manning match-up all week and by all means it should be a good game. But with beer in hand I sat down on my couch and turned on NBC and nearly fell on the floor with what I saw.

Everyone knows the popular Monday Night Football song by Hank Williams Jr, you know the one that gets the chills going through your body as he belts out his famous line "ARE YOUR READY FOR SOME FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLL?."

Well, NBC had their chance to make their mark and have a just as catchy song etched in our brains with the highly touted "Manning Bowl" kicking off the Sunday Night NFL TV season, but they blew it. Big time. NBC's counter to Hank Williams Jr. was Pink. Yes, Pink! The semi famous and 100% obnoxious female punk rapper/singer. I guess Paris Hilton and Britney Spears were unavailable.

Now call me crazy, but I believe either the suits at NBC have their ties too tight cutting off circulation to their brain or they are just plain retarded. Now I'm no television guru or rocket scientist but if I had to take a guess I wouldn't think Pink is exactly what the target demographic (NFL Fans) wanted to see. Heck, most of them may not even know who Pink is, let alone want to see her sing the corniest song possible before an NFL football game.

Of all of the singers and entertainers in this world, Pink, would be on the bottom of my list for this intro. In fact her arch rival, Jessica Simpson, would have been a better choice because at least she is easy on the eyes.

NBC really missed the boat on this one and not the missed like the boat just left the dock, this ship is halfway around the globe with no return in sight. Someone deserves to be demoted to the mail room for this.

For all of the 18-45 year old males NFL fans or at least to keep me from vomiting every Sunday night, I hope they reconsider what they have done and make a different choice that maybe their target demographic will not find as nauseating as Pink.

(36) Thoughts on NBC + NFL Football = Pink?

Not that I approve their choice either, but they were probably trying to duplicate the relative success the NBA had with her intro/commercials.

As a general rule, i would carefully watch what the NBA does, then do the exact opposite.

This is the same network that passed on Lost and seriously considered cancelling The Office.

Could they get rid of Chris Collinsworth as well as Pink?

Comments by Thomas : Monday, September 11, 2006 at 12:32 PM

Yes they have missed the energy of Monday night, and thier new , graphics seem to polished and corporate, there is no "EDGE" no FUN.. I even miss the espn PRIMETIME, they need that , instead its a long , polite wrap up of the days games..( football night in america? it is not catchy)The song needs to be faster , and LOUDER, with some live cheers etc... i just dont FEEL it like i do when Hank comes on..

The people at NBC have been drinking too much bong water to realize Pink is a white trash piece of garbage.

Read the section on what NFL on NBC producer Fred Gaudelli said. It's all BS!!!

... We chose Pink as the signature voice because she is a tremendous talent with a crossover appeal that makes her relevant to all segments of our audience.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHO PINK WERE,i THOUGHT SHE DID AND EXCELLENT JOB FOR NBC.for you people out there that don't have any soul i can understand why you don't like her or i should say don't like the music.Beats country any day.

Comments by L BURSEY : Monday, September 18, 2006 at 07:06 PM

I just checked this site to see who the beautiful and entertaining blonde singer was who was doing the intro. If you would rather look at Hank Williams Jr. than Pink, you have a problem.

Comments by Robert Pence : Sunday, September 24, 2006 at 08:20 PM

NBC couldn't have found a trashier singer if they tried. This was a poor choice. I only hope they are working on something to replace this so I don't have to watch it every week.

Only CBS's choice to keep Dan Dierdorf all these years tops this for poor decisions.

I think the music is great, Pink is roudy just like the game, she kind of Pumps You Up!

Comments by Gary Morris : Tuesday, October 03, 2006 at 07:29 AM

what's wrong with Pink singing the Opening Song i think its catchy, both Sunday Night and Monday Night with Hank Jr.

Comments by Bill MacEachern : Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 07:54 PM

well, Pink is OK, but the song sonds canned, compared to the rambuncious hank williams song, The whole atmosphere on NBC including the song, lacks ENERGY. ESPN and FOX have lots of energy, its loud, bar-room style, raucous, and FUN. NBC is like a corporate ,button down, slow, boring quaterly report. Compare the whole monday and Sunday pre games , and see for yourself.

There are some women who love football, too. yiu don't have to be hairy, in a musclr shirt & belching to watch. I like the song in fact I'm trying to find out the name of it!!!!

Comments by sukie52842 : Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 05:44 PM

Sukie , this was a very poor REMAKE of the classic Joan Jett song " I Hate Myself For Loving You" Pink just does not have the Raunch and guts to put feeling into it, the way Joan Jett belted out the origional , hmmm ... maybe they should have asked HER to sing it ?!

Comments by Patti : Sunday, November 05, 2006 at 08:28 PM

Simply Pink can not sing!!!

You could say pink-stink.

Comments by Brian : Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 09:45 PM

pink is a dirty prostitute and has no place singing before a game she knows nothing about. and she's ugly.

Comments by Alan Hoyt : Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 08:19 PM

I love it, I love it. The football song by Pink is terrific and I feel like dancing with her. I also enjoy the Hank Williams version.

Comments by cindy : Monday, November 27, 2006 at 05:44 PM

God I hate Pink.. in fact I usually miss the opening kickoff as I will not listen to or watch that shit, even on mute.
So I wont tune to NBC until I KNOW she wont be on the TV.

I hate Pink.. she's not football, she's not cool, she's a gimmick and it sucks, as does her music.

Way to drop the ball NBC... give me ES Posthumus anytime.

Comments by Kenn : Sunday, December 03, 2006 at 08:20 PM

Say what you will, but I heard/saw part of the song one time last week while shopping near the TVs at WalMart and 'Sunday night football on NBC' has stuck in my head ever since. I DO NOT LIKE FOOTBALL OR EVER WATCH IT. I didn't even know NBC aired football on Sundays so getting this information into my head is actually quite an accomplishment. I think this campaign will work better than expected as long as NBC can reach out to non-football watchers such as myself to get them interested and informed about when and where to see football. They are not likely to lose viewers because real football fans will still watch. I even took a glance at the latest scores for "my team", the Patriots. They seem to be doing pretty well. :-)

Pink is a dirty skank, dig a little into her past and you will see she is an ex-porn chick. No talent!

Looks like Brigette Nielsen's ugly little sister!

Yeh there has to be something seriously wrong with you if you are saying Pink cannot sing. Pink has one of the most amazing voices and sings from the heart. And she is one of the most amazing looking girls in the limelight just now. "Cowards" is the word tht comes to mind. Men tht are scared of strong independent women like Pink....says it all

Comments by Louise : Friday, December 22, 2006 at 10:02 AM

would you all just leave pink alone?!?! f****** hell shes a great singer and shes NOT a prostitute,us english people aprecciate her songs more than the americans, and shes even said that herself! she has got guts, she dares to be different and she puts feeling into every song

I think she does an awesome job. Each time I hear that opening I get up and walk into the so I can watch and listen to that catchy tune and video. Pink did a great job at the song. I think it is a nice change from Hank's version.

Comments by Mike : Saturday, January 06, 2007 at 08:10 PM

My first thought when I saw the Pink intro was why couldn't NBC come up with something different or original like ABC did with Hank? After watching it all season, I now think it was a statement for their entire Sunday Night Football Show....we can't be original we just use other peoples ideas and not even as well

Comments by scott : Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 04:53 PM

I would much rather listen to Pink's comments on Eli Manning than Tiki Barber's. Why did they need to hire a Giants specialist? Wouldn't it be better to have an "analyst" who knew something about some of the other teams? Is Eli Manning's lockerrom personna the biggest story NBC can find in pro football this season?

Comments by Sal D'Agostino : Sunday, December 16, 2007 at 10:28 PM

I love Pink. She likes football more than ladies clothes. And she tells men to back off, and they hate it. Not just singing it, but for reals, at the NFL. Haha Go Pink!

Comments by Jack : Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 11:13 AM

The NBA on NBC is the greatest sports telecast ever.

SNF on the other hand, could use some work.
