Click Fraud Case Settled
The $90 million offered by Google to refund customers who were defrauded by bogus clicks has been approved. A judge in Arkansas approved the settlement which is generous to Google. While $90 million may seem like a substantial sum, it's likely a small fraction of the amount that Google makes per quarter in questionalable clicks.
However, that Google paid something and had to acknowledge the reality of click fraud puts the pressure on the company and its competitors to do better in the future at preventing and filtering click fraud or else risk additional lawsuits and ill will.
Like spam and computer viruses, there will always be some level of click fraud. But keeping the damage to a minimum by enhancing technology is an ongoing responsibility.
