Google's Game of ShadowsWord association: Click fraud is to Google as _____ is to Barry Bonds.
If you said steroids, you've earned a $50 credit from your last PPC campaign. Investigations are now on into to what extent (pick your noun) 's record setting career been powered by artificial performance enhancers.
The Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) has teamed up with Fair Isaac to study click fraud, and the results may not be pretty for Google.
Company ClickTracks has jumped on the bandwagon, offering a discount on its software to any company that is a party to the class action lawsuit against Google. Radiator.com has joined the growing ranks of companies peeved at their PPC performance with Google.
Google needs to go on the offensive to quell the grumbling. They should admit that problems occur and come out with a technology solution (as AdMedian has done) that will testify to their commitment to eliminating the scourge. The perception isn't going to go away unless there is some fessing up that wasn't prompted by a legal action.
Or they could be like MLB and hire George Mitchell to investigate, with little hope for a real solution.
