Outlook Bright on Live Mail

Microsoft's desktop version of Windows Live Mail looks promising, according to Forrester analyst Charlene Li.

Her blog has screen shots of the desktop client, including the integrated RSS feed reader (yeah!), and the ability to manage multiple email accounts seems like a big step up from Outlook Express.

Moving to ad-supported "lite" applications makes a lot of sense for Microsoft as they start to become major sellers of advertising. Perhaps Linux vendors and Sun should think about taking the same approach for the desktop OS's and applications. Or is that heresy to the open source world?
