Google Cashes In on Classifieds With Google Base

Well all that talk from Google about Base not being a classifieds killer seems to have been misinformation. If the aim was truly to make Base a service for organizing information, would it really need an online transaction service? Oh wait, maybe they meant to say it's an eBay killer.

Google will enable people to use their Google Accounts on Base, much like they are doing with Google Video. So this is will be largely a commerce site, clashing with both Craigslist and eBay.

Sure, Base still has to be redesigned to take on the big hitters, but it's happening. Could Google double it's revenues by taking a cut of the transactions enabled by search? Youbetcha.
