Nokia To Have Brand New Year

Nokia is kicking off its marketing efforts for 2007 in a big way. Nokia will sponsor five New Year's concerts around the world featuring artists including the Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, Nelly Furtado, John Legend, and Atomic Kitten and stream them for free online through MSN.

MSN will be the exclusive online location for the concerts in Hong Kong, Mumbai, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. The video will also be available through Live Messenger, but I'm very surprised that the company isn't streaming video or audio (at least in terms of clips) to its phones

There is a natural tie in between music and Nokia's phones, so it makes me suspicious as to why they aren't playing that angle. Is the network not robust enough to handle the multimedia?

Nokia and MSN hope to generate considerable buzz and press from the event, and have hired the producers of the successful Live8 event that drove huge numbers of people to AOL's portal site.

This should be a big win for both companies in instilling brand awareness in a younger audience.
