Good Blogs Trump Bad
Cuban draws a lot of attention to himself and his companies through his blog that covers not only topics of interest to his properties but also business and sports topics that are of general interest. Cuban is right for saying that Trump the blogger should be fired for not knowing how blogs can be marketing engines.
The Donald has scored a marketing coup though in drawing lots of attention to his Miss USA pageant by having a party girl as the reigning queen and then publicly scolding her. The only reason most people thought about the Miss USA contest (other than browsing the photo galleries) this year is because Miss Kentucky likey the drinky.
Companies that invest in blogging should give their execs the autonomy to write about issues of importance to them, such as Waggener Edstrom does with Frank Shaw's blog.
Marketers will still use advertising and conventional PR to spread the word, but an interesting blog that tackles issues and doesn't devolve into PRspeak is an effective tool. Donald, don't comb over the weakness that is your blog, fix it.
