Local Search Isn't Just Online
ex: Piper's parents looking for a local shop that sells custom built backyard gymnasiums & playhouses.
ex: Me trying to find a nice coffee shop in Reston, Va while I'm at ILM 2005, etc...
That being said, companies like Free411 offer directory assistance free of charge via the phone. Yes they have a web site but they're a phone based app.
Just to clear the air on Free411... I'm sitting next to Tom Latinovich, one of Free411's founders, and he and I had a good discussion this am about their service...hence the references to them in the past couple posts. Heck, maybe if I post about them again they'll buy me dinner tonight :) After all, I am in startup mode and have no VC since I'm committed to bootstrapping this gig.
Anyway, we'll begin to see many other services that facilitate search on all fronts. Browser based, phone based, and every other form of media we currently understand and those yet defined. It's all very exciting stuff.
